What are Chakras ?

  • Chakra’s meaning “wheel” in Sanskrit, are energy centres within the body that correspond to different physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of our being.

  • There are seven main chakras, each located in a different part of the body and representing a different color of the rainbow.

  • The chakras are believed to be connected by energy channels, or meridians, that allow for the flow of energy throughout the body.

  • When our chakras are balanced and aligned, we feel a sense of harmony and well-being. However, if they become blocked, inflexible or out of balance, we may experience physical or emotional symptoms, dis-ease or stress.

  • Practices such as yoga, meditation, and energy healing can help to activate and balance the chakras, promoting overall health and vitality.

  • Working with the chakras can correct, clear and prevent ill-ease and therefore improve our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health.

More about the Chakras

Each chakra enhances certain qualities on a physical, mental, emotional and or spiritual level and although there are 114 chakra points in the body we will focus on the 7 main chakras.

Root Chakra : At the base of the spine, the centre of vitality, physical energy and self preservation. It is associated with grounding, stability, survival instincts and the physical body. Feelings of good health, abundance and connection to the Earth. It activates and strengthens the will (to live, to survive, to create etc). Assists us in living on the physical plane and stimulates the life sustaining energies. Family and group safety and security. The ability to provide for life’s necessities, to stand up for self. Feeling at home.

Sacral Chakra : Found just below the navel, the sacral chakra is associated with creativity, sexuality, emotions, and relationships. Feelings of connection to other people, intuition and desire. It stimulates the creative life force and is the base of life itself. Known as the pathway to health; it is attuned to emotions and thoughts concerning wellness and is, usually, the centre which allows the condition of dis-ease to manifest in order to cleanse the body, mind or emotions.

Solar plexus chakra : Positioned at the solar plexus below the breastbone, is associated with personal power, ambition, intellect, desire, self-esteem, confidence, willpower and emotions based on intellect and touch. It is the physical centre of the body, the energy store, holds developed and usable personal power and emotional control. This chakra is thought to contain a protective energy against any negativity that is contained within any of the other chakras.

Heart Chakra : Positioned at the centre of the chest, the heart chakra is associated with love, compassion, forgiveness and emotional well-being. Feelings of safety, ability to trust, take risks, love yourself and Universal love and spirituality associated with a “oneness” with “All That Is”. The heart chakra offers up a “sprinkling” of love and compassion to all of the chakras too.

Throat Chakra : Located in the throat area, the throat chakra is associated with communication, sound, self-expression, authenticity, and creativity. Acting to provide the energy for, and the understanding of, verbal, physical and mental communications.

Third Eye Chakra : Positioned between the eyebrows, the third eye or brow chakra is associated with intuition, perception, spiritual awareness, inner wisdom as well as ideas, thoughts and dreams. The centre of psychic power, intuition and the energies of the spirit, personal magnetism and light. It enables focusing of the higher intuition and stimulates the wisdom for “right” intent. When activated and clear, it is the centre for outside guidance and the intuitive “aha moment”. It also assists in the purification of negative tendencies and in the elimination of selfish attitudes.

Crown Chakra : At the top of the head, the crown chakra is associated with spiritual connection, consciousness, divine knowledge and enlightenment. Our spiritual centre, where dynamic thought and energy lives, connection, imagination and awareness. When stimulated and clear, it enables us to see the truth around illusory ideals, materialistic pursuits, self-limiting concepts, pride, and vanity; allow us to experience continuous self-awareness and conscious detachment from personal emotions, the inward flow of wisdom and brings the gift of cosmic consciousness.

With the balance of the chakras comes a free flow of energy which brings physical, emotional and spiritual well-being and a renewed harmony from within.
